WHAC Tournament BracketGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a week away from action, newly crowned Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference baseball champions Davenport heads to Fort Wayne, Ind., Monday to begin the league's six team, double elimination tournament with the winner receiving an automatic berth to the NAIA National Opening Round. The top seeded Panthers have a first round bye and will take on the winner of the No. 4 Madonna and No. 5 Aquinas matchup in the nightcap at 7 p.m. Fans can follow the Panthers via live stats or audio through the Davenport Athletics Network.
WHAC Champs!The Panther baseball team will be adding a WHAC championship banner to the Student Center's Main Gym wall after clinching the title for first time with the doubleheader win at Concordia last weekend. Davenport edged Northwestern Ohio in the standings by winning percentage. At 24-6, DU posted a .800 winning percentile while the Racers finished 22-6 for a .786 mark.
Davenport in the WHAC TournamentThe Panthers have gone 1-2 in four WHAC Tournament appearances in the last five years, totaling up to 4-8.
The Last Time in the WHAC TournamentDavenport had the honor of hosting the conference tournament in its brand new ballpark last year. The second-seeded Panthers lost 8-7 to Indiana Tech on a walkoff solo shot to send the host to the loser's bracket. DU escaped with a 5-4 win over Northwestern Ohio in the nightcap before being eliminated by Aquinas 5-2 the next day.
EJ Grochowalski went 4-for-10 (.400) with a double, a homer and three RBI in the tournament.
Ryan Butzer checked into all three games in relief and allowed one run in five combined innings.
