Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In the first period, Davenport opened the scoring early with a nice goal by
Jacob Blok, assisted by Zach Schwandt. The time of the goal was 19:02. Just minutes later the Panthers recorded another one with
Jonathan Gilbert squeaking one by the Michigan goalie. The rest of the period was back and forth with no action until Michigan got a quick one on a nice play late in the period.
The second period started like the first with Davenport getting two quick goals back-to-back scored by
Isaac Lippert and
Zach Schwandt. Minutes later Michigan did the same and recorded two goals of their own to put the score at 4-3 with the Panthers still ahead by one. Instead of Davenport opening the period with a goal it was Michigan beating the Panther goalie on a nice shot top shelf. With the game now being tied the tension grew with both teams and both teams were fighting for the lead. With 3:41 left in the period, Davenport's
Austin Bliznik put one home with the help of
Zach Schwandt.
With DU having the lead, Michigan decided to pull their goalie with a minute left in the period. Pulling the goalie worked because with 17.1 seconds left Michigan got one threw the screened goalie to send the game into overtime. Davenport only needed eight seconds of OT as
Zach Schwandt scored off a faceoff rush to the blocker side of Michigan's netminder for the 6-5 win. DU swept the weekend series from Michigan and are now 2-1 overall.
