Box Score 2 The Davenport men's Division III hockey team dropped a pair of games on Friday in Holland and Saturday in Grand Rapids to Hope College. The Flying Dutchmen won at home 5-0 and on the road 8-3.
Riley Draper scored the first goal on Friday at 6:32 and Brian Cain (15:01 PP) and Evan Fall (19:01 PP) also scored for a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Evan Augustine scored at 8:43 on the power play in the second period. Brandon Flood added the game's final goal on the power play at 3:05 of the third period. Hope finished 4-for-7 on the power play for the night.
Andrew Habasevich had a busy night with 58 saves in the loss. Alex Caradonna stopped all 22 shots he faced for Hope.
The Panthers surprised the Flying Dutchmen in the first period on Saturday with two goals in the first 5:30. They scored 15 seconds into the game as
Jordan Crawford put the biscuit in the basket from
Austin Bliznik and
Zach Schwandt. At the 5:30 mark it was Schwandt with a takeaway and short-handed goal. Hope responded with a flurry later in the period. They scored four goals in a span of 1:33 to take a 4-2 lead after the first. Garrett Gormley scored twice including a power play goal at 18:00.
Hope scored three more times in the second to put the game out of reach. Jabuk Myska, Flood and Austen Peterson scored against
Jacob Mofield who filled in for Habasevich in the first period. Schwandt scored on the power play at 0:25 of the third period from
Josh Riemersma and Bliznik. Peterson scored his second of the night on the power play at 16:13 to end the scoring. Mofield stopped 32 shots in relief while Habasevich made 12 saves.
