ALMA, Mich. – The DU wrestling team began their season Thursday night in a dual with Alma College. The Panthers competed throughout the match with the Scots, but Alma was able to better the Panthers and set their record back to 0-1 after a 33-9 result.
Freshman
Cole Menck secured the first points for DU at the 141 weight class. Menck won by decision and cut the Alma lead to a 11-3 after the Scots took the first three matchups from the Panthers. Redshirt sophomore
Kyle Nixon continued to help the Panthers battle back into the match as he took out Alma's Taylor McPhail by a fall in the 165 weight class. Nixon was able to pin McPhail and give the Panthers six much needed points to cut the Alma lead to 15-9.
The Scots then pulled away as they secured the wins at the next four weight classes to hand the Panthers a 33-9 loss in their opening match.
