No. 19 Baseball to Play Nine Games in Florida During Spring Break

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After inclement weather called off its game at No. 8 Georgetown (Ky.) last weekend, the No. 19 Davenport baseball team now turns its attention to spring break next week, when the Panthers will play nine games in Florida. The tour starts with baseball newbie Cleary Sunday at 7 p.m. held at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla. Fans can follow all contests on the Davenport Athletics Network.

The Panthers make their first appearance on the diamond since sweeping Union (Ky.) in the season opener two weeks ago.

Time to get some games in
Davenport will be making another visit to Florida during spring break. The Panthers have been traveling to the Sunshine State every year since the inaugural season in 2009. Davenport went 6-6 in Florida last season and is 40-20 overall down there. Its best record in a season is 8-2 during the 2013 season.

The last time in Florida
Davenport finished 6-6 last season in Florida, picking up wins over Grace (twice), Warner, Southeastern, Hannibal-LaGrange and St. Francis (Ill.). Among returners, Zac Wilson batted .375 with a double and five RBI to lead the offense. Although he hit .250 along with a double and a home run, Brendan Bender drew an impressive 11 walks for a .422 on-base percentage. Ryan Butzer checked into half of the contests that week and allowed three earned runs. Corey Sessions was also impressive on the mound, throwing 12 innings in two starts, allowing two runs on 10 hits and a walk but did punch out 10 batters.
