Softball Back on the Road; Visits Aquinas, Siena Heights

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After avoiding a third game-two loss Wednesday, the No. 18 Davenport softball team will look to keep that momentum going this weekend with two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponents. The Panthers, coming off two victories over Cornerstone, continue the Battle of the Beltline Saturday when they visit Aquinas. The road trip will continue Sunday when Davenport visits Siena Heights. Both days are 1 p.m. first pitch.

A Quick Look at Aquinas (17-17, 3-7 WHAC)
Crystal Laska's eighth edition of the Saints are coming off a doubleheader sweep against Siena Heights Wednesday, taking game one and two by the scores of 5-2 and 8-0. Before Aquinas hosts Davenport, it will be taking on its other crosstown rival Cornerstone Friday. Ellie Adams is currently leading the Saints offensively with a .386 batting average. Along with pacing the ballclub with a five doubles, she has 13 doubles which is the only one with double figures. Erika Whittington has thrown a lot of innings for Aquinas (91), leading the team with a 3.77 ERA.

A Quick Look at Siena Heights (16-15, 4-8 WHAC)
The Saints, under 10-year head coach Laura Klutsaritus, are coming off losing a doubleheader to Aquinas Wednesday. Siena Heights has only won three of its last nine contests. Megan Jones has been placing her candidacy for the conference's player of the year award at the plate. She is currently batting .416 with 14 doubles, five home runs and 28 RBI. Klutsaritus has turned to freshman Kelsie Abbott on the circle. She is currently 13-6 and has a 2.73 ERA in 131 innings of work, well-beyond the most among any member of the Saints pitching staff.
