Postseason Slate Opens for Softball with WHAC Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport softball team will start their postseason this week as they take part in the WHAC Tournament in Rockford, Mich., this week. The Panthers enter the postseason with a 36-8 overall record and finished tied atop the WHAC standing to clinch a share of their second straight WHAC Championship. The Panthers enter the tournament as the number two seed in the tournament and will face seventh-seeded Lourdes in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

A Quick Look at Lourdes – 9-17, 7-11 WHAC
The Gray Wolves finished in a three way tie for sixth place in the WHAC and will be the even the seventh seed in the tournament after Aquinas won the tiebreaker over Lourdes and Siena Heights, while the Gray Wolves won the tie breaker over Siena Heights. Alyssa Schaub leads the way for the Gray Wolves offense as she is hitting .450 on the year and has recorded 36 hits, while recording 34 runs.
 
Panthers vs. Gray Wolves
The Panthers and Gray Wolves met in Davenport's final WHAC games of the season as Davenport was able to sweep Lourdes, 9-0 and 7-3 last Friday. Prior to this season, Davenport is 4-0 against Lourdes after Lourdes started their program in 2013.
 
A Quick Look at the Field
The top eight teams in the WHAC earned a spot in the conference tournament, and seven of the eight spots in the WHAC needed a tiebreaker to figure out seeding as Northwestern Ohio was the only team in the WHAC who held the fifth seed all by themselves. After Davenport and Madonna tied for first-place, Madonna earned the number one seed in the tournament, while the Panthers were slotted in the second seed. Concordia held the tiebreaker over UM-Dearborn for the third seed in the tournament, while Northwestern Ohio grabbed the fifth seed. There was a three way tie for sixth place, and Aquinas earned the sixth seed, while Lourdes grabbed the seventh seed and Siena Heights grabbed the eighth and final spot in the WHAC Tournament
