GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The DU wrestlers hosted Heidelberg University Friday night for the final home dual of 2015-16. The Panthers fell behind early 13-0 before they battled with a strong finish. DU would gets its spark from
Brandon Dyke as he earned a win (Fall 4:51), but the Panther come back fell short as the Student Princes hung on for a 23-17 win.
DU would fall behind early as the Student Princes took a 13-0 lead heading into the 149 pound match.
Brant Schafer then got DU on the board as he earned a win over Noah Messerall (Dec. 5-2) and the Panthers cut the Heidelberg lead to 13-3. Dyke would keep the DU comeback going as he pinned Chris White at the 165 pound weight class and the Panthers trailed, 16-9.
Dillon Francisco earned a convincing win at 184 as CJ Bostwick barely escaped a pin, but Francisco controlled the match from the start to take the win (MD 9-0).
Aaron Martin battled at the 197 pound weight class till the end but fell just short in a 4-2 decision and DU trailed 23-13.
Glenn Geurink would finish strong for the Panthers as he dominated Napoleon Bell at 285 and took the victory (MD 8-0).
The Panthers will see action again on January 22 when they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana for a dual with Indiana Tech at 6 p.m.
