PELLA, Iowa - The DU wrestlers traveled to Central College to compete in a pair of duals Friday night. The Panthers first competed against the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) where they earned a 52-6 victory before host Central College took DU down 43-3.
DU competed against the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) to open their night in Pella, Iowa. DU dominated as they only surrendered one weight class on the way to a 52-6 victory.
Kahle Scheenks got the Panthers going at the 133 pound weight class with an 8-0 win by major decision. DU then recorded back-to-back wins by fall from
Connor Hughes and
Brant Schafer as they advanced their lead to 16-6. The Panthers kept this momentum going as they earned four more wins by fall, and did not let the University of the Ozarks gain another point on their way to the dominating victory.
Austin Vannatter earned the win at the 165 pound weight class,
John Norton took the 184 pound match,
Aaron Martin won at 197, and
Raiden Macleod capped the match for DU with a win at 285.
The Panthers then competed against host Central College. The Dutch controlled the match as they would hand DU a loss by a 43-3 final score.
Brant Schafer earned the lone victory for the Panthers as he would go 2-0 on the day after a 4-3 win by decision over Tanner Hocker of Central. DU would battle for the entire match, but the Dutch seemed to find a way to earn their victory as the Panthers were handed the loss.
