Panthers Suffer Two Loses Against Aquinas College

The Saint out shot and out scored the Panthers during both games

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers had a tough two game series against Aquinas College over the weekend, falling to Aquinas in both games. The Saints of Aquinas got the best of Davenport; DU was only able to score one goal during the two games compared to the Saints 25 goals. Aquinas is currently ranked third in the North Region and hold an impressive record of 16-2-1.

Game 1 (Friday, December 9th)
Final Score: Davenport 1, Aquinas College 15
Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Records: Davenport 1-15-1, Aquinas 15-2-1

GOALS PER PERIOD
1st Period: DU-1, AQ-5
2nd Period: DU-0, AQ-3
3rd Period: DU-0, AQ-7
Final: DU-1, AQ-15

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Aquinas jumped out to an early lead, scoring four goals during the first period before DU responded back. Chris Pakalnins scored in the 15th minute to try and spark a Davenport come back, he was assisted by Zachary Schwandt. Aquinas was able to squeak another goal in before the end of the period to lead 5-1 after the first.
-The Saints had control of the game for the second and third period, they scored a combined ten goals over the two and held the Panthers score less.
-Pakalnins had DU's only goal.
-Gates tallied the only assist.
-Both Nicholas Oostra and Jacob Mofield spent time as DU's goalie. Oostra had 23 saves and Mofield had 39. Overall the Panthers faced 77 shots on goal during the game.


Game 2 (Saturday, December 10th)
Final Score: Davenport 0, Aquinas College 10

Records: Davenport 1-16-1, Aquinas 16-2-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Davenport made some adjustments for the second match-up against the third ranked Saints, however Aquinas was just too much to handle.
-In the first period AQ poured in four goals while holding DU score less. They were able to score their fourth goal with just six seconds left in the period.
-Aquinas scored three goals in each the second and third period during the game. The Saints defense was a tough match-up for the offense of DU, the Panthers were only able to tally 18 shots on goal during the game.
-Kelton Maskell played one period, tallying 13 saves, and Mofield played two periods, saving 36 shots.

 
UP NEXT
The Panthers completed their last games of the 2016 year and won't play again until mid January. Davenport has six games scheduled during the months of January and February to end their 16-17 season.
