Panthers Earn Split on Day Two in Montgomery

DU lost 2-0 to #3 Faulkner and rebounded for 8-0 win over LU-Belleville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Davenport baseball team earned a split for the second straight day as they once again lost to #3 Faulkner 2-0 and rebounded to defeat LU-Belleville 8-0. The Panthers stand at 4-3 overall this season.

The first game was a pitcher's duel between Christian Torres and Bryan Saucedo. The Eagles found a way to push across a pair of runs, one coming in the third and another in the sixth. Nick Cain walked in the third for Faulkner and moved to second on a wild pitch. Cain moved to third on a grounder to second and then scored on a RBI groundout to short by Onix Martinez. Faulkner added an insurance run as Alexis Cruz walked with two outs and moved to second on a single by David Palenzuela. T.J. Condon drew a walk to load the bases and then Saucedo was replaced by Caleb Leach. Delvy Palmeiro then delivered with a RBI single.

Davenport did have three hits compared to two for the Eagles. Torres went all seven innings and walked one with six strikeouts. Jeremy Vasquez, Zack Sardellitti and Zac Wilson all had a single off Torres. Saucedo allowed just one hit in 5.2 innings but did walk five and struck out four.

In the second game, Corey Sessions picked up his first win going five innings and allowing six hits, no runs and no walks with two strikeouts. Brady Kais and Michael Meade combined for a scoreless sixth. Alex Schuiling threw in the top of the seventh and retired the Lynx in order.

Jim Brady was saddled with the loss going four innings and allowing seven hits and five earned runs. Jonathan Steiner gave up three hits and three runs in the sixth. Travis Bolin went 2-for-4 with a double and triple. He also scored twice and drove in a pair. Vasquez batted 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run and an RBI. Zac Wilson was 1-for-3 with a double and run. Brandon Cable collected two hits in four at-bats. Connor Seymour went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
