Box Score 2 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport baseball team remained undefeated at home this season (7-0) but it did take a while as they cruised to a 14-2 win in game one before needing 11 innings in a 4-3 game two victory. The first game was tight until Davenport scored nine runs courtesy of six Aquinas errors and three hits in the sixth inning.
Davenport scored four in the first opening up the scoring on a balk. Aquinas committed an error allowing another run to score off the bat of
Matt Priebe.
Connor Seymour had a RBI infield single and a double steal led to the fourth run.
Brandon Cable had a RBI single in the second inning to give DU a 5-0 lead. The Saints broke through with single runs in the fifth and sixth to make it 5-2.
Brian Sobieski had the big hit of the sixth with a bases-loaded triple for three RBI. Priebe also had a RBI triple in the inning.
Sobieski hit his first triple of the season and finished 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs and three RBI. Cable and Priebe each had two RBI.
Zac Wilson went 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI.
Corey Sessions improved to 4-1 on the mound going six innings and striking out six with no walks.
Krystien Johnson-Batillana tossed the seventh and walked two with two punchouts. Kameron Joostberns got the loss in the start for Aquinas lasting 1.1 innings and giving up five runs (three earned).
The second game was tense throughout as Aquinas got the board twice in the first off
Michael Meade. The Panthers responded with a pair of solo home runs in the fifth to tie the game. Sobieski hit a one-out homer to left center his third of the season.
Travis Bolin then hit his 10th long ball to left with two outs.
The team's closers then logged their longest outings as
Jonathan Cheshire pitched five innings (76 pitches, 52 strikes) and Aquinas' Brandon Melchert went five innings (94 pitches, 56 strikes). Cheshire and Melchert both stranded runners in extra innings to keep their teams in the game. Cheshire got the win improving to 3-1. Jack Garthe entered in the bottom of the 11th and gave up the winning run on a two-out RBI walkoff single by Priebe through the left side.
Sobieski went 2-for-4 in game two while Bolin went 2-for-5 including his 13th double of the season. Seymour collected a pair of singles in four at-bats with a RBI.
JP North also had a multi-hit game and doubled down the right field line to lead off the 11th.
