Panthers drop a pair against Michigan State

The men's Division III hockey team could not post a goal this past weekend against Michigan State University. After a season-opening win the team has dropped their last five contests.
 
Game 1 (Saturday, October 28th)
Final Score: Davenport 0, Michigan State 19
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.
Records: Davenport 1-4, Michigan State 5-2

1st Period: DU-0 | MSU-7

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Spartans scored four goals in the first 8:39 of the first period and did not look back. Chase Lebster scored 24 seconds into the game followed by Zach Beaumont, Matt Cox and Austin Rothe. In total, seven different Spartans scored a goal in the opening 20 minutes.
-Dean LaMantia scored twice in the second period as did Colin Lynch for MSU.
-Adam Goodes and Cox each scored two goals in the third period.
-MSU got a three-goal, three-assist night from Joe Zelenka. Cox finished with three goals. Beaumont had a goal and a game-high five assists for the Green and White.
-Conner McDowell stopped 27 shots in two periods while Jordan Tafel made 23 saves in the third period.

Game 2 (Sunday, October 29th)
Final Score: Davenport 0, Michigan State 18
Location: East Lansing, Mich.
Records: Davenport 1-5, Michigan State 6-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
-LaMantia scored the first goal for MSU followed by Lorenzo D'Agonstini. Tyler Isola and Drew Sabini also scored in the four-goal first period for the Spartans.
-LaMantia and Sabini scored again in the second period. Zelenka and Rothe also found the back of the net for MSU.
-The Spartans finished with eight goals in the third period. Cox scored twice while Sabini and LaMantia completed a hat trick. 
-Dustin Eggenberger finished with a goal and three assists. Goodes had a goal and three assists. 
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers will welcome the University of Indianapolis to Patterson Ice Center on Nov. 10 (8:30 p.m.) and Nov. 11 (9:30 p.m.).
