Panthers falter late in 7-4 loss to Ferris State

DU led 4-2 before allowing the game's final five goals to the Bulldogs

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The two teams met at Griff's Ice House as part of the game being rescheduled. Ferris State scored first at 4:17 as Logan Saxton up the visitors on the board from Joe Rodriguez and Spencer Wamsley. Davenport tied it up at 11:27 as Travis Bouwkamp scored the unassisted goal. Each team recorded nine shots on goal in the opening period.
-The second period featured open ice and a total of seven goals. Davenport scored on the power play at 4:47 as Charlie Bonser was credited with the goal with assists to Ryan Morse and Christopher Heath. Morse made it 3-1 at 7:16 from Brandon Bihn to give the Panthers a two-goal cushion. Ryan McGrath cut the lead in half at the 14:55 mark which started an onslaught of goals for the Bulldogs. They would score four times in the final 5:05 of the second period. Richard Zanavich scored on the power play for DU assisted by Bouwkamp to make it 4-2. Ferris State's Nathan Rieman scored at 18:21 from Rodriguez. Matt Medonis, the team's leading point getter, scored on the power play just 35 seconds later to tie it up at 4. Medonis scored again at 19:31 from Ethan Peitz to give FSU a 5-4 lead.
-Davenport was outshot 11-4 in the third period and saw Ferris State put the game away with goals by Joe Valentino on the power play at 10:50 and by Nick Haskell at 15:32 from Medonis.
-Austen Strauss made 22 saves in goal for the Panthers. DU went 2-of-7 on the power play. 
 
UP NEXT
Davenport will begin the stretch run of their season with just three regular-season games remaining. The Panthers will host Sault College this weekend for a two-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 2 at 9 p.m. from Patterson Ice Center.
