GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport wrestling team had their final dual of the season on Sunday against Grand Valley State. The Panthers took an early lead but could not hang on in a 19-18 loss to the Lakers at the DU Student Center.
Caleb Braley started things off at 125 with a 14-10 win over Sean Halverson to give DU a 3-0 lead.
Cody Orcutt gave DU a 6-0 lead after his win at 133 over Mason Borzym (8-5).
Jordan Ringler extended the lead to 12-0 after a pin at 4:35 over Nick Reddy of GVSU in the 141-pound match.
Andy Hansen extended the lead to 15-0 at 149 pounds with an 8-2 decision over Nicholas Martini. The Lakers started to make a comeback at 157 pounds as Adam Burton defeated
Tyler Brewer 11-10. Jake Sobeck then defeated
Brandon Dyke by a 7-1 score at 165 pounds.
Sam Greco got a win for Davenport to stop the run at 174 pounds with an 8-1 win over Trevor Pickett.
Grand Valley State trailing 18-6 would score the final 13 points for the one-point win. Brady Bischer defeated
Chris Cooper at 184 pounds by a 7-1 score. Brenden DeVries got six huge points with a pin of
Kyle Nixon at 197 pounds in 2:19. The last match was heavyweights featuring Harun Bogdanic of GVSU and
Weston DeHaven of DU. Bogdanic got four points with a 12-4 major decision over DeHaven.
