Schafer siblings show out at SVSU Holiday Open

SAGINAW, Mich. – Davenport opened their 2019-20 indoor season competing in the SVSU Holiday Open and the Schafer siblings stole the show. The two become the first Panthers to hit NCAA Division II provisional marks. The team is eligible for NCAA Division II postseason competition for the first time this season and Emma Schafer and Isaiah Schafer wasted no time making their name known around the country.
 
Men
  • In the 60 meter dash, Brendan Lalonde and Juan Vazquez got their first taste of collegiate action. Lalonde finished in 7.23 seconds and Vazquez in 7.35 seconds.
  • Corbin DeJonge and Lalonde both finished in the top 20 in the 200 meter dash. DeJonge ran the event in 23.03 seconds and Lalonde in 23.13 seconds.
  • In the 600 meter run, Noah French took second, Matthew Field fifth, and Collin Graham sixth. French finished in 1:24.04, Field in 1:25.66, and Graham in 1:25.82.
  • DeJonge and Zach Hammel-Brown each placed in the top 10 in the 60 meter hurdles. DeJonge took fifth with a time of 8.53 seconds and Hammel-Brown in sixth with a time of 8.75 seconds.
  • In the long jump, Colin Grady jumped 6.36 meters and took ninth place.
  • Schafer threw 16.29 meters in the shot put, winning the event and hitting the NCAA Division II provisional standard. He becomes the first DU male to do so this season.
  • Claude Ockert tossed 17.36 meters in the weight throw, finishing fifth.
 
Women
  • Joelle Humpula and Mya Staczek finished in the to 20 in the 60 meter dash. Humpula took 13th with a time of 8.17 seconds and Staczek finished 17th with a time of 8.27 seconds.
  • In the 200 meter dash, Alison Toner, Kyla Chappell, Humpula and Staczek finished in under 28 seconds. Toner clocked a time of 27.45 seconds, Chappell 27.20 seconds, Humpula in 27.19 seconds, and Staczek in 26.99 seconds.
  • Chappell also competed in the 400 meter dash. She finished in 1:01.03 and took seventh place.
  • Davenport dominated the 600 meter run, taking three of the top four places. Sarah Stapleton won the event with a time of 1:40.86. Samantha Fritz and Autumn Hancock finished third and fourth respectively. Fritz clocked a time of 1:52.13 and Hancock finished in 1:54.21.
  • Alexandra Eby finished sixth in the 60 meter hurdles, completing the event in 9.38 seconds.
  • In the high jump, Deidre Lorton cleared 1.54 meters on her third attempt. She took fourth in the event.
  • Myah Kelly and Eby tied for fifth in the pole vault. The two each cleared 3.27 meters on their third attempt.
  • In the long jump, Kelsey Graham took second place. Graham leaped 5.36 meters on her second jump.
  • Davenport had three representatives in the pentathlon, Samantha Morrison, Stacia Rispress and Schafer. Schafer finished third with 3,512 points and hit the NCAA DIvison II provisional standard. She becomes the first DU female to do so this season. Morrison scored 2,996 points in the event and Rispress 2,885 points.
