Panthers compete at GVSU Al Owens Classic

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Davenport is flying through the 2019 Outdoor Season. The GVSU Al Owens Classic is the second to last meet of the regular season for DU before they compete in the GLIAC Championships. A pair of men's hammer throw competitors had the best outing for the Panthers. Claude Ockert and Brandon MacGregor each hit NCAA Division II provisional standards in the event, while both finishing in the top four at the meet.
 
Women
  • In the 100 meter dash, Joelle Humpula finished 10th with a time of 12.38 seconds. Lexie Mayer, Haley Nelson, and Jakara Edwards-House all finished the event in under 13 seconds.
  • Aleah Mixon brought home the quickest time in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 26.03 seconds. Nelson, Paige Gould, and Mayer all finished in under 27 seconds.
  • In the 400 meter dash, Tiler Tyler clocked a time of 1:00.35.
  • Kaitlyn Rademacher had the fastest time in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:34.70.
  • In the 1,500 meter race Taryn Hubaker finished in 5:14.91.
  • Morgan Posthuma took home a top-eight finish in the 5,000 meter run. Posthuma finished in 18:54.25 and finished seventh.
  • In the 100 meter hurdles, Alexandra Eby also took home seventh place, running the event in 15.08 seconds.
  • Kennedy Miedema continued the trend of seventh place finishes in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 1:07.06 and taking seventh place.
  • In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Olivia Bordewyk took 11th place with a time of 12:07.74.
  • The relay squad of McKayla Nadolney, Gould, Tyler, and Humpula finished third in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:01.04.
  • Eby also competed in the pole vault. She cleared the height of 3.45 meters, taking home ninth place.
  • In the shot put, Lisa Wangler tossed 12.10 meters, finishing in seventh place. Wangler also competed in the Discus, recording a mark of 32.96 meters.
  • Davenport put on a show in the hammer throw, having all three athletes finish in the top 10. Kaylyn Perry tossed 47.09 meters, finishing in ninth place, Wangler took home sixth with a toss of 48.12 meters, and Jenna Schumaker finished third with a mark of 48.76 meters.
  • In the javelin, Nadolney recorded a mark of 30.50 meters, finishing in ninth place.
 
Men
  • DU took fourth, fifth, and seventh place in the 100 meter dash. Brett Schenck finished in 11.06 seconds, taking seventh place. Joe Grundstrom finished fifth with a time of 11 seconds flat, while Colin Grady finished fourth by clocking a time of 10.80 seconds.
  • Schenck also competed in the 200 meter dash, taking ninth place with a time of 22.38 seconds. Zack Kuran, and Zach Hammel-Brown also finished in under 23 seconds.
  • In the 400 meter dash, Noah French and Matthew Field had similar times. French clocked a time of 51.13 seconds and Field finishing in 51.17 seconds.
  • Zach Diamond competed in the 1,500 meter run and finished in 4:10.88.
  • In the 5,000 meter run, Thomas VanSlembrouck finished in 15:29.69, taking home 10th place.
  • Corbin DeJonge clocked a time of 15.35 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing seventh in the event.
  • Davenport had two top-five finishes in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Les Miner finished in 10:02.61 and placed fifth, while Adam Maxwell finished in 9:59.61 and placed fourth.
  • The relay team of Thomas Herring, Eric Harris, Hammel-Brown, and Kuran finished the 4x100 meter relay in 43.36 seconds.
  • The squad of Justin Fleser, Craig Hoskins, DeJonge, and Field took home third place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:24.88.
  • The Panthers finished fifth, sixth, and seventh in the long jump. Drake Boomer recorded a mark of 6.71 meters, placing seventh, Romario Salmon leaped 6.76 meters, placing sixth, and Grady took home fifth with a mark of 6.77 meters.
  • Grady also competed in the triple jump and recorded a leap of 11.60 meters on his third attempt, finishing in ninth place.
  • In the shot put, Isaiah Schafer threw 14.81 meters on his third attempt, finishing in eighth place.
  • Eric Toledo recorded the best mark in the discus for DU; he tossed 39.68 meters on his first attempt.
  • Ockert and MacGregor had arguably the best performances of the day for Davenport. The two both eclipsed the 55 meters mark at the meet. MacGregor threw 55.53 meters on his final throw, taking fourth place, and Ockert recorded a mark of 55.69 meters, also on his final toss, taking third place.
