HOLLAND, Mich. – After a tough loss on Friday night, the D3 hockey team went over towards the West Coast of the Mitten to take on Hope College on Tuesday night after their initially scheduled meeting on Saturday was postponed.
The Flying Dutchmen came out strong once again, jumping out to a three-goal lead in the first period. However, unlike Friday, the Panthers battled back. After Hope went up 4-1, Davenport came all the way back to make it a 4-3 game. Yet, Hope was able to flex their muscles and score five unanswered to win their 13
th game in a row against Davenport
QUICK STATS

Power Play: DU (1/9) | HC (2/6)

A GOOD HOPE
The Dutchmen came out buzzing on home ice, leading to a goal form Allan Hirsch less than 90 seconds into the game. Minutes later, Jack Zwiers and Brendan Sanders scored just under two minutes apart to put Hope up 3-0 before the halfway mark of the period.
CLIMBING BACK
The Panthers would get some life in the final minute of the period, as
Charlie Bonser set up
Alexander Brown for his 18
th goal of the season.
Davenport was feeling good after scoring late in the first, but early in period two, the Dutchmen would be flying again. This led to a goal from Noah Weigle that put Hope back up by three for the second time on the night.
The Panthers, however, were able to slow down the Dutchmen attack, and later on in the period,
Tyler Heyboer scored his 15
th goal of the season. Despite the bad start to the game, the Panthers only found themselves trailing by two heading into the final 20 minutes.
The Panthers would be back within a goal after
Kevin Crawley found the back of the net for the fifth time this season early in the third period.
TOO MUCH TO HANDLE
Even though DU had the momentum, the Dutchmen settled down to take the game back. Hirsch scored his second of the game less than a minute after Crawley scored. That was followed up by a goal from Brad Baysore just before the halfway mark of the period, with Michael Walsh scoring minutes later.
Hope capped the game off with goals form Gabe Gunneson and Cole Stenstrom on their way to the 9-3 win.
WHO'S NEXT?
Davenport has a quick turnaround as they have to get set to play another top team in the North Region, crosstown rival Grand Valley State. The Lakers are 17-4 this season, are 11-2 in Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference action, and are no. 5 in the North Region.
DU is 12-13 all-time against the Lakers, with GVSU winning the last nine meetings between the two. Game one of the weekend is at Patterson on Friday, with an 8:30 p.m. puck drop.
