Schumaker hits NCAA D2 Provisional Mark at Hillsdale Conference Crossover

Hillsdale, Mich. – Davenport had members compete in two different meets over the weekend. Some of the track and field athletes competed at the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational and the majority of the team took part in the Hillsdale Conference Crossover. The team had plenty to be happy with during the meets, as two school records were broken and another DU student-athlete hit an NCAA Division 2 provisional standard. Malcolm Caldwell broke the program record in the 60 meter hurdles and Colin Grady took down the oldest men's indoor school record in the 60 meter dash. In addition to those school records, Jenna Schumaker hit the NCAA D2 provisional standard in the weight throw, joining a handful of other teammates who have hit provisional marks this season.

Women
  • In the pole vault at the SVSU meet, Davenport had three members compete. Madeline Elmquist, Myah Kelly, and Alexandra Eby. Kelly and Eby finished tied for 13th place, clearing 3.27 meters, while Elmquist tied for 11th by clearing 3.42 meters.
  • At the Hillsdale meet, Joelle Humpula and Mya Staczek finished in the top five in the 60 meter dash. Staczek placed fourth with a time of 8.32 seconds and Humpula finished in third with a time of 8.19 seconds.
  • In the 200 meter dash, Kyla Chappell finished in 28.05 seconds, placing fourth, and Staczek clocked a time of 28.06 seconds, finishing in fifth.
  • Chappell also finished third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.08.

  • Kelsey Graham took fourth in the long jump, leaping 5.08 meters on her first attempt.
  • In the shot put, Rachel Morris had the best DU mark. She threw 10.71 meters and placed eighth in the event.
  • Schumaker made some noise in the weight throw. She took first place in the event with a toss of 17.46 meters. This mark was good enough to hit the NCAA Division 2 provisional standard.

Men
  • In the pole vault at the SVSU meet, DU had a single competitor, Noah Dooley. He hit a personal best by clearing 4.20 meters in the event, finishing tied for 10th.
  • Back at the Hillsdale meet, Grady helped re-write the DU history books in the 60 meter dash. He ran the event in 6.93 seconds, taking first place and beating the old record of 6.94 seconds by Carleton Hunter. This record was one of the longest standing indoor men's records at Davenport.
  • In the 200 meter dash, Juan Vazquez blew away the field with a time of 23.80 seconds. He took first place and Matthew Field finished second with a time of 24.69 seconds.
