Spartans Complete Sweep of the Panthers

Four goals in the opening 20 minutes sent the Spartans on the way to victory

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The D3 hockey team traveled over to Munn Ice Arena Saturday evening for a meeting with the Michigan State Spartans. DU was looking to bounce back after the Spartans handled the Panthers at Kentwood on Friday night, despite Davenport having a good start in the first period.
 
Michigan State did not let DU into the game. They scored four goals before adding another four in the second on their way to their 14th consecutive win over the Panthers.

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead with two goals form Chance Murray in first half of the game. A couple of minutes after Murray's second goal of the game, Alex Franczek scored his sixth of the season to make it 3-0. Jack Chumley scored with only a couple of minutes remaining in the period to send MSU into the break with four-goal lead.
 
In period two, Collin Lynch and Franczek scored to extend the Spartans lead to six. Alexander Brown put DU on the board halfway through the period. Dakota Ristow scored his third goal of the weekend, and Joe Zelenka added one before the buzzer, sending the Spartans into the third with an 8-0 lead. Franczek added a hat trick goal early in period three followed by tallies from Lorenzo D'Agostini and Cam Hundley.
 
Christopher Heath scored for the Panthers in the third, but the Spartans would go on to win by a final score of 11-2.
 
WHO'S NEXT?
 
In the final weekend of the regular season, the Panthers will take on Saginaw Valley State. SVSU is 14th in the North Region, and are 8-15-2-1. The two have not played since the 2016-17, but DU leads the all-time series with a 9-8-1 record against the Cardinals.
 
Game one will be at Kentwood Ice Arena on Friday the 7th, with puck drop scheduled for 8 p.m.
