GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's volleyball program opened its season last Saturday, Feb. 1 with The Challenge and didn't drop a single set in three matches played. The Panthers swept Ferris State (25-15, 25-22), Purdue Northwest (25-16, 25-20) and Bowling Green (25-20, 25-21).
Against the Bulldogs,
Stefan Sretenovic (pictured) and
Kevin DeYoung led the attack with eight kills apiece while
Phil Tubman (7) and
Deantrius Coleman (5) each had five or more kills as well.
Lawrence Newton fueled the offense with 26 assists and
Logan Usrey added another. Usrey led Davenport in digs with 11 while Coleman stuffed three attempts above the net.
In the team's second match, Sretenovic had another great outing against the Pride. The junior outside hitter led the squad in kills again, this time with 10 to go with a .400 hitting percentage. Newton came to play as well with seven kills and a .636 attacking clip while Coleman added five kills and a .333 attack percentage. The Panthers other leaders included Newton with 14 assists,
Crescent Bride with 12 digs and Coleman with two more blocks.
