GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's Division III ACHA hockey program was looking for their first win of the early season on Friday (Oct. 8) at Patterson Ice Center, but the Spartans of Michigan State had other plans in a 6-1 victory over the Panthers (0-3).
The Spartans controlled the game throughout and finished with 50 shots on goal compared to 15 for the Panthers. MSU scored two goals in each of the three periods.
Logan McGivern scored twice for the Spartans as did Alec Evans. The Spartans had a 2-0 lead when
Kevin Crawley scored his first of the season at 15:29 of the first period. Monty Gottfriedson had an assist on the goal. Crawley served a two-minute tripping and a 10-minute misconduct penalty before returning in the first period to score.
Shaid Shearer made 44 saves in net for Davenport.
