GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The 2021-22 season got underway on Wednesday night for the men's wrestling team as they hosted Alma in a dual at the DU Student Center. It was the first competition for first-year head coach
Bebeto Yewah. Davenport could not pull out the victory as the Scots won 24-17.
Davenport won four matches with three of them coming against opponents and one coming by forfeit.
Crue Cooper earned six points because of no opponent for the Scots at the 197-pound match. The Scots also picked up two wins at 125 pounds and 184 pounds because the Panthers did not have a wrestler to compete.
Manuel Leija at 133 pounds picked up a win by technical fall 19-4 at 5:47 against AJ South. Robert Altland at 141 pounds gave Davenport an 8-6 lead with a 7-2 decision over Matt Tomsett. Alma would claim points in the next five matches to take a 24-8 lead. Cooper's points got them within 24-14 and then
River Fox at 285 pounds had a convincing 7-1 win over Brody Miskimon.
