DU Bounces Back with Big Win Over Marian

Panthers score over 10 goals for the third time in two seasons

Written by Tyler Kuehl

KENTWOOD, Mich. – The D3 Hockey team looked to quickly shake off a pair of losses to Hope, as they met second-year program Marian at Kentwood Ice Arena for a Valentine's Day clash.

Davenport responded with a dominating offensive performance, hitting double digits on the scoreboard on their way to win no. 1 on the season.

QUICK STATS

Final Score: Davenport 11 – Marian 0
Shots: DU 46 | MU 26
Power Play: DU (0/3) | MU (0/5)
Records: DU (1-2) | MU (0-1)

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

Three Panthers found the back of the net twice on Sunday, as Elijah Klco, John Lizyness and Aiden Dion achieved the feat. Dion and Klco each added assists, as them, along with Kevin Crawley, picked up three assists in the win. Barrett Rosser was sharp, stopping all 26 shots he faced, giving him his first shutout of his college career. It was also the first shutout by a D3 netminder since January 2016.

GOOD START

DU came out with a little bit of pep in their step, as they got scoring chances early and often, putting the pressure on the Sabres' Brendan Keeler. They were rewarded just a few minutes in as Hunter Tolsdorf was able to sneak the puck by Keeler to give the Panthers their first goal of the season. Just a few minutes later, JT Warren would get a chance that was stopped by Keeler, but Kevin Crawley jumped on the rebound to put the Panthers up by two.

In period two, Davenport stayed on the attack, as Aiden Dion set Marcus Chartrand for a one-timer to give DU a 3-0 lead just passed the eight-minute mark of the period. Later in the frame, Klco scored back-to-back goals to send the Panthers into the second intermission with a 5-0 lead.

STANDING TALL

DU took a penalty late in the period, and the Sabres had arguably their best scoring chances up to that point. However, Rosser stood tall, making a few big saves to keep the Panthers out in front by five.

FINISHING IT OFF

The Panthers poured it on in the third period with six goals. Dion and Lizyness each scored twice, with Brendan Schievink and Carter Osborn scoring their first of the seasons, with Osborn's being the first of his DU career.

WHO'S NEXT?

DU will now travel to Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin for a two-game set against the Sabres next weekend. The first game of the weekend will take place on Friday, Feb. 19 at the Blue Line Family Ice Center, with puck drop set for 4:30 p.m.
