BEAVERCREEK, Ohio - The Davenport University men's golf team got just the start it wanted on Monday as part of the Cedarville Medal Match Play by defeating the host Yellow Jackets, 3-2, in the quarterfinals. However, the Panthers fell to Mount Vernon Nazarene, 3-2, later that day in the semifinals and came up short against Ohio Dominican, 5-0, on Tuesday to tie for fifth out of eight teams.
Tyler Kapcia (pictured) led the way for the Panthers with two wins in his three matches as he defeated his counterpart for both Cedarville and Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Noah Bridgeman,
Ryan Kauppila and
Brandon Bodis each went 1-2 for the week as Bridgeman and Kauppila both beat Cedarville while Bodis was victorious against Mount Vernon Nazarene.
For the individual standings, Kauppila was the lone Panther in the top 10 as he finished seventh with a 36-hole score of +9/225 (72-77-76). Joining Kauppila in the top 25, though, were both Bridgeman in a tie for 21st with a +19/235 (72-81-82) and Bodis in a tie for 24th with a +21/237 (79-74-84). Rounding out the scoring for Davenport was
Robert Starkey in a tie for 32nd with a +26/242 (81-81-80) and Kapcia in a tie for 35th with a +28/244 (79-83-82).
Next up on the schedule for the Panthers, they'll be at Wayne State's Motor City Invitational on Oct. 10-11 in Dearborn at TPC Michigan.
