HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Davenport women's basketball team scored a season-high 75 points on Saturday afternoon at Michigan Tech, but in the end it was the Huskies that scored 86 for the 11-point win. Davenport scored 52 of those points in the second half including 32 in the fourth quarter (highest scoring quarter of the season). The Huskies improved to 11-5 overall (6-2 GLIAC) while the Panthers are now 1-16 (0-9 GLIAC). DU was able to shoot 37.5 percent from the floor but Michigan Tech was more efficient shooting 54.8 percent. That was the second highest total by an opponent against the Panthers this season. Davenport committed 12 turnovers which was eight less than their season average and was the second-lowest total of the season.
Michigan Tech led 17-11 after the first quarter but went 0-of-7 from the arc. The Huskies picked it up in the second quarter going 9-of-15 (.600) from the floor and limited the Panthers to 4-of-19 (.211) as they built a 38-23 lead at halftime. DU was outscored 26-20 in the third quarter but then outscored the Huskies 32-22 in the fourth quarter.
Toni Grace scored a season-high 25 points which was also the most points scored by a Panther this season. She went 9-of-20 from the floor and 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Grace played 32 minutes and also had five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Ajai Simmons came off the bench to score 16 points and also grab five rebounds in just over 22 minutes.
Lillee Gustafson was able to grab a team-high 14 rebounds which was her sixth double-digit performance of the season. Eight of those were offensive rebounds for Gustafson.
