4 School Records Broken at GVSU Bill Clinger Classic

Sidney Heugel (Pole Vault), Emma Schafer (Pentathlon), Lisa Wangler (Shot Put), and Noah Dooley (Heptathlon) established new school records

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Panther track and field teams switched gears and instead of attending a meet at Saginaw Valley State they traveled to nearby Grand Valley State for the Bill Clinger Classic on Friday (Jan. 28). The highlights of the event included a strong showing on the women's side as three school records were established. Sidney Heugel in the pole vault cleared a height of 3.8 meters (12' 5") and finished third with a provisional NCAA mark. Emma Schafer in the pentathlon scored 3,663 points to win the event and also hit a provisional NCAA mark that is currently fourth in the country in Division II. Lisa Wangler in the shot put had a toss of 13.07 meters (42' 9") and finished fifth.

Claude Ockert for the men's side in the weight throw finished fourth with a throw of 18.75 meters (61' 5") and hit a provisional NCAA mark that is currently 17th in Division II. Noah Dooley finished second in the heptathlon which concluded Saturday morning. Dooley scored 5,275 points which breaks the school record and puts him sixth in Division II on the provisional list.

In other performances, Leialani Akalaonu finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.02. Alexandra Eby and Stacia Ripress tied for sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.58. Rispress also claimed fourth place in the high jump at 1.52 meters (4' 10"). Mackenzie Brigham in the long jump finished second with a distance of 5.14 meters (16' 9"). Brigham also had the best triple jump at 10.71 meters (35' 1"). Wangler also was able to finish third in the weight throw at 16.93 meters (55' 5").

Brendan LaLonde took home third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.02. Ethan Flores was the top dog in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.35 seconds. Cody Brandenburg placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 12.18 meters (39' 9"). Colin Grady placed second in the long jump with a distance of 6.80 meters (22' 3").
