INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Davenport bowling teams hit the road at the Columbia Western Shootout on October 15-16. The ladies finished third overall while the men's team finished seventh in a talented field of teams from around the Midwest.
The men's team finished seventh out of 30 varsity teams with a solid 5,812 in six team games and 3,100 in 16 baker games for a grand total of 8,912. Saint Xavier out of Chicago won the tournament with a total of 9,234 by six pins over Calumet College of St. Joseph.
Nick Luther had the best finish on the men's side in 22nd place. Luther averaged 198.8 in his six games with a high of 248 in the sixth game of the block. Tyler Kelly was in 30th place with an average of 194.0 and bowled three games over 200 including a high of 244 in the second game.
The women's team totaled 8,332 pins in the same format as the men to finish third. They trailed first place Pikeville (8,859) and Trine (8,346).Â
Pikeville had the top three bowlers in the field but then it was
Omani Morales in fourth place for the Panthers with an average of 196.0 to make the all-tournament team. Morales bowled six games and topped out at 231.
Karine Bouchard finished sixth and averaged 190.5 with a high of 218 in the fifth game.
Merisa Batkins was in 43rd place for DU with an average of 166.8 for six games and had a high of 193.
