ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport track and field teams competed in the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday and Saturday and big might be an understatement with 1,800 entries and over 150 teams competing at the Kelly Family Sports Center. The Panthers were able to come back to Grand Rapids with some notable performances as they gear up for the upcoming GLIAC Indoor Championships in two weeks hosted by GVSU.
Ethan Flores won the 60-meter hurdles and hit a national qualifying time in 8.19 seconds. He bested a field of 20 athletes in the finals.
Noah Evers in the shot put had the third-best result in school history and finished fourth in the event with a distance of 53-feet, 4-inches.
On the women's side, they had five different top finishes that rank high in school history.
Mackenzie Brigham in the long jump had the second-best mark with a jump of 17-feet, 11-inches and finished third in the event.
Leialani Akalaonu had the second-best finish in the 200 meters at 26.15 seconds and finished 10th in the event.
Ella Baryo in the mile run had the third-best time in 5:15.61.
Jessica Marvin in the shot put had the fourth-best throw at 41-feet, 1-inch.
Annabelle Schafer in the 60-meter hurdles had the fourth-best time at 9.30 seconds.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of
Emma Schafer,
Kyla Chappell,
Erin Boettcher, and
Ellie Reynolds finished third with a time of 4:03.54. Schafer also finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.94 seconds. Brigham followed her third place in the long jump with a fifth place in the triple jump (35-feet, 6-inches).
Lisa Wangler in the weight throw placed second with a toss of 55-feet, 3-inches. Marvin also finished third in the weight throw at 54-feet, 8-inches. The men's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of
Nolan Kudera,
Noah Dooley,
Hudson Oetman, and
Collin Graham finished third with a time of 3:26.68.
Dooley also finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 14-feet, 6-inches. He also won the long jump with a distance of 22-feet, 6-inches and
Colin Grady finished second at 22-feet, 5-inches.
