GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's lacrosse team battled with Lake Erie on Saturday in frigid conditions at the DU Turf Field. The Storm changed the game in the second quarter outscoring the Panthers 6-1 and didn't give up the lead after that in a 12-11 win over the Panthers in non-conference action.
Davenport held a 4-2 lead with 6:50 left in the second quarter after
Austin Thompson scored his 10th goal of the season. The Storm then reeled off five straight goals in the final 4:41 of the quarter to change the tide. Blain Wallace scored back-to-back goals in that stretch and Lake Erie led 7-4 at halftime.
Davenport got the game back to 7-6 as
Keelan McKouen scored back-to-back goals including a man-up goal at 11:53 of the third quarter. The Storm then scored the next two goals including a man-up goal by Brendan Luthart at 7:18 for a 9-6 lead. The teams traded goals up until the 3:43 mark of the fourth quarter when McKouen scored his third of the game and 10th of the season with a man-up. DU made it 11-12 with 1:35 to play on McKouen's fourth goal of the game. Lake Erie won the faceoff but the Panthers got it back off a blocked shot. DU's
Jordan Caskenette had a high shot attempt with 22 seconds left and
Dylan Day had a wide attempt with 18 seconds left but neither found the net.
Lake Erie won 19-of-25 faceoffs which proved to be critical in the contest. They outshot the Panthers 47-26 because they had more possession.
James Johnston finished with three goals and three assists.
Griffin Poll led with six groundballs and caused two turnovers.
Daniel Milano made 10 saves in net for the Panthers.
