CALEDONIA, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State scored a combined 13 runs on 19 hits and swept Davenport on Sunday with scores of 3-1 and 10-2 in five innings. Next up on the schedule for the Panthers is a home doubleheader on Tuesday against Purdue Northwest with the first pitch in game one scheduled for 2 p.m. at The Farm.
Davenport (12-16, 4-6 GLIAC) has dropped seven of its last eight games while Saginaw Valley State (20-12, 6-4 GLIAC) has been on the right end in two straight and six of the previous eight.
Emma Miller (7-7) gave up three runs, only one earned, in 3.1 innings pitched with just one walk and four strikeouts. In relief,
Ellie Muilenburg handled the final two and two-thirds with two hits allowed, no free passes and three punchouts, marking her second outing of the spring without a walk surrendered.
Offensively, the Panthers' lone run came in the second when
Lindsay Goodman (pictured) singled in Miller.
In game two, the Cardinals scored a run in the second, five in the third and four more in the sixth. Muilenburg helped herself with a sacrifice fly in the first that brought in
Gabby Palazzolo before
Brooke Cowan forced in
Alexis Koza with a bases-loaded walk three frames later.
In the circle, Muilenburg was tagged for three earned runs in two innings pitched before
Elise Magnus' three earned in a third of an inning and Miller's four runs, two earned, in the final three and a third.
