CALEDONIA, Mich. - Davenport dropped game one to Purdue Northwest on Tuesday, 4-1, and was trailing in the nightcap, 7-2, heading to the bottom of the fifth inning. From there, the Panthers scored seven runs in two innings to come all the way back from five down and win, 9-7. Next up, the eight-game week continues on Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Parkside beginning at 3 p.m. at The Farm.
Davenport (13-17, 5-7 GLIAC) snapped a five-game skid at home while Purdue Northwest sits at 17-7 overall and 7-3 in league play.
In game one,
Emma Miller (7-8) gave up four runs, three earned, on eight hits in 5.1 innings pitched with no walks and two strikeouts. In relief,
Ellie Muilenburg handled the final inning and two-thirds without a hit allowed, one free pass and two punchouts.
Offensively, Davenport managed just four hits, none of which scored the team's lone run as
Lindsay Goodman brought in Muilenburg with a sacrifice fly down the left field line in the seventh.
Game two was a wild one that saw a combined 16 runs, 16 hits and eight errors. Seven of the Panthers' eight hits came from the top four spots in the batting order including
Gabby Palazzolo (2-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B),
Rachel Griffin (1-for-4, 1 R),
Riley Hasseld (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), and
Alexis Koza (2-for-4, 5 RBI).
In the circle, Muilenburg got the start and threw five innings while surrendering seven runs, only two earned, on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Miller (8-8) picked up the win in relief with a line of two hits, no walks once again and two strikeouts.
