Davenport Leaves Northwood with Doubleheader Split

MIDLAND, Mich. - Northwood came back from an 8-2 deficit in game one to defeat Davenport, 10-8, before the Panthers bounced back in the nightcap for a 9-2 victory and the Saturday split. Next up on the schedule, DU will host Parkside in a doubleheader on Monday with game one set to start at 3 p.m. at The Farm.

Davenport (16-18, 8-8 GLIAC) comes home having won four of its last five games while Northwood (19-11, 5-7 GLIAC) has dropped three of four since winning four straight. The Panthers' final six home games will come next week including the Parkside doubleheader on Monday, two against Saginaw Valley State on Saturday and two vs. Wayne State on Sunday for Senior Day.

Emma Miller pitched the first four and two-thirds innings with eight runs given up, four earned, on nine hits, one walk and three strikeouts. In an inning and a third of relief, Ellie Muilenburg (6-10) allowed two earned runs on two hits with the tough-luck loss.

Offensively, Davenport racked up 17 hits, the program's most since March 27, 2019 at Ferris State, and boasted five players with multiple base knocks in game one. Those five included Gabby Palazzolo (4-for-5, 2 R), Riley Hasseld (2-for-5, 2 R, 1 RBI), Rachel Griffin (4-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI), Monica Meger (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), and Alexis Cardona (2-for-4, 1 R). Meger went deep twice in a game for the first time in her career while Cardona had multiple base knocks for the third-straight game.

In the nightcap, Davenport busted out for another big lead, but was able to hold onto it until the final out. Starting with the pitching, Muilenburg (7-10) redeemed herself as she surrendered two earned runs on five hits with two free passes and seven punchouts.

At the plate, Rylie Kalina (3-for-4, 1 R, 1 2B), Hasseld (2-for-4, 2 R, 1 BB) and Muilenburg (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 2B) tallied multiple hits while Koza hit a two-run shot to open the scoring.
