GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's lacrosse team had a tall task on Saturday against No. 8 Indianapolis who visited the DU Turf Field for the first time. The Greyhounds built a big lead in the first half and finished with a 14-5 victory over the Panthers. DU is now 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC while Indianapolis sits at 9-1, 2-1 in the conference.
Indianapolis led 4-0 after the first quarter and scored the first eight goals of the game. Parker Johnson scored three of those eight goals for the Greyhounds. Brian Robb, Kyle Basch, Owain Braddock, and Bren Jamieson each scored in the first quarter.
Austin Thompson got Davenport on the board at 6:11 of the second quarter with an assist from
Jordan Caskenette. Indianapolis would then score the next five goals including one by Ben Foster a man-up at 4:02. Johnson scored his fourth goal of the game at 3:22 and James Whiteford scored at 2:31 for the 11-1 halftime lead.
Foster opened up the third quarter with a goal at 12:17 from Robb.
Dylan Day got his first of the game at 8:15 and that was followed by a man-up goal from Caskenette at 6:09. It was Caskenette's fifth man-up goal of the season. Whiteford scored at 2:15 from Braddock for a 14-3 advantage. Davenport scored the only fourth quarter goals coming from Day (4:42) and
James Johnston (3:07).
Adam Smellie assisted the Day goal and
Andy Trapp assisted the Johnston goal.
The Panthers did a good job of committing penalties and the Greyhounds were 1-of-1 with the extra-man opportunity. DU also improved their numbers in faceoffs winning 13-of-23. The total shots were 36-23 in favor of the Greyhounds including 23-15 on goal.
Kaden Seelye finished with seven groundballs and caused one turnover.
