EAST LANSING, Mich. - The track and field teams got outside for the first time this spring competing at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Panthers were able to set four new school records during the meet.
Joey Fox in the 1,500 meters ran a time of 4:01.70 for a new school record.
Ella Baryo finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase setting a record in 11:30.64.
Isaiah Schafer picked up where he left off during the indoor season by winning the discus with a DU record 53.89 meters. He also won the shot put with a toss of 17.68 meters. Sydney Heugel competing in the pole vault made a height of 3.87 meters and placed seventh establishing a new DU mark.
Colin Grady was victorious in the long jump out of 20 other athletes with a distance of 7.01 meters.
Aislyn Shannon finished second in the unseeded 800 meters with a time of 2:30.68.
Leialani Akalaonu was able to cross the finish line third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.84.
Scout Nelson finished fifth in the 800 meters after playing for the women's basketball team in the winter. Her time was 2:18.70 which was impressive in a field of 29 other competitors.
Lisa Wangler finished seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.37 meters.
Cody Brandenburg was fifth in the triple jump covering a distance of 12.30 meters.
Mackenzie Brigham competing in the same event was third for the Panthers (10.71 meters).
Noah Evers in the discus gave DU two top-five placers along with Schafer coming in fourth with a distance of 47.77 meters.
Emma Schafer had a mighty leap of 5.47 meters in the long jump and finished second.
