Preview: Final pair of regular season home matches for Panthers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's soccer team will play in their last two home games of the regular season this week in hopes of capitalizing on their win streak.

DU is coming off their single match week against Saginaw Valley State that finished in a statement victory for the Panthers, 2-0. Cam Power scored his first goal of the season, while Andrew Dykstra tallied his third on the year to place him in a three-way tie with Eoin Broughan and Vitalis Takawira Jr for the most goals scored for DU. Bobby Curran was recognized as the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against SVSU as he led the Panthers to their first shutout victory of the year with three saves total.

Up next for DU are St. Cloud State and Northern Michigan University, two pivotal matches that could influence the 2023 GLIAC Tournament seeding for the Panthers with just a handful of regular season matches left.

St. Cloud State Matchup
A shaky start to conference action for the Huskies has seen better results more recently, with the team opening the month of October with a 2-1 record and downing No. 1 GLIAC Wisconsin-Parkside, 2-1, in their most recent match for a 3-3-1 conference record, 3-6-2 overall.

Zinedine Kroeten has scored almost half of the team's goals with three (eight total by team) with a team-high six points. Goalkeeper Dylan De Baldo leads the GLIAC in total saves with 56, although his goal-against average is a conference-low 2.04 mark.

DU will look to expand on their two-match win streak that stems back to last season, the most recent victory being last month in St. Cloud, Minn. finishing 2-1 to extend the historical record to 5-0-1 overall for the Panthers.

NMU Matchup
DU suffered their first conference loss this year against NMU after a last-minute goal scored by the Wildcats put them on top, 1-0. Since that match, NMU has struggled to find success as a five-match losing streak was finally broken after a 0-0 draw against Purdue Northwest last week to mark their overall record at 2-8-2, 1-5-1 GLIAC.

NMU has scored the lowest amount of goals in conference action with two, six total for the year with all goals coming from six individual Wildcat players. Fernando Abascal is one of the scorers as he leads the team in assists (two) and points (four), with a team-high 10 shots on goal. Florian Palmowski has seen the most action as the team's goalkeeper with 37 saves tallied and 11 goals against.

Historically the Panthers have gotten the best out of Northern, with the most recent loss being the second loss in program history - the first dating back to Sept. 2018 in Marquette, 2-1. The current all-time stands at 7-2-4.
