ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team was able to have a strong showing in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at nearby Grand Valley State over the weekend. The tournament was delayed one day until Saturday with all matches starting under great weather conditions. The tournament extended into Sunday and then Monday for the finalists in singles and doubles.

Jan Stolin was able to fight back after a opening-round loss in singles to the finals of the consolation bracket. The first match was hanging in the balance and a point or two swinging the other way could have put Stolin in the round of 32. Matias Parzajuk of Lewis battled Stolin all the way into a third set tiebreak and Parzajuk won 12-10. Stolin then proceeded to win 6-3, 6-0 over Vitor Jordao of Michigan Tech. On Sunday, he continued through the draw with a quarterfinal consolation win of 6-4, 5-7, 12-10 over Niklas Nordahl Jensen of Walsh. He needed just two sets to beat Louis Keiner of Rockhurst 6-2, 6-4 to reach the finals. Denys Zamaraiev of Grand Valley State took the finals but it was a tough match by scores of 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.

Subash Paramasivam also had a very solid singles tournament winning 6-4, 6-4 over Joan Dasi of Walsh in his first match. He then took down Dani Chicano Melero of Purdue Northwest to reach the round of 16 on Sunday by scores of 6-3, 6-2. He won his third straight match defeating Semyon Tsyrenov of Rockhurst in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). In the quarterfinals, Subash faced the No. 8 seed Bendix Schroeder of McKendree and fell in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 10-3).

Joel Mast won his first singles match over Nathan Brumbaugh of Cedarville (6-3, 6-2) but fell in three sets in a tight one against Marlon Wilken (6-2, 4-6, 12-10). Mast teamed up with Simone Pacciolla in doubles and advanced to the quarterfinals. They won 8-5 in their first match against Tatenda Mutetwa and Oliwer Wierzbicki of Lewis. They also disposed of Alexander Patane and Melero of Purdue Northwest 8-5.

Jose Brenes also picked up a singles win over Arnav Gannavaram of Rockhurst (6-4, 7-6) and ran into No. 2 seed Emil Mikkelsen of Wayne State in the round of 16 falling 6-1, 6-2. Max Dion and Marius Pion teamed up in doubles and got a win over Markos Prentits and Juan Suero of Maryville (8-6).
