MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The pitching trio of
Jared Schwartz,
Alex Lord, and
Spencer Vainavicz limited Hillsdale to just three hits and two runs on Saturday as the Panthers beat the Chargers 5-2 for their first win of the season. Schwartz got the start and went 4.1 innings on the mound. He allowed just one hit and one earned run with four walks and six strikeouts. Lord threw to just one batter in the fifth inning and then Vainavicz relieved him and finished the game going 4.2 innings. He allowed just one hit and no runs with three walks and six strikeouts.
Dillon Manion took the loss in relief as the second pitcher for Hillsdale. He lasted 1.2 innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs with a strikeout. Davenport was able to strike out four of the top five hitters in the order twice.
Gaetano Vallone shook off a hitless game yesterday going 3-for-5 with a run scored in the leadoff spot.
Michael Tchavdarov went 2-for-4 with a walk, run and RBI.
Carter Troncin finished 2-for-4 at the plate with the only extra-base hit for the Panthers which was a double. Vallone and Tchavdarov also stole two bags.
Caleb Anspaugh had a RBI on a fielder's choice in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 5-2.
The two teams will play the rubber match in game three of the series tomorrow at noon eastern time.
