GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team competed at home to start the conference swing of the season on Friday. The Panthers were at the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Club in a contest against the Michigan Tech Huskies. The long grueling day ended with a 4-3 win for the Panthers.
The Panthers lost the doubles point.
Daniil Khitrou and
Subash Paramasivam were at three doubles, they lost a tough 6-1 match to Ricardo Nunez and Ambarish Rao.
Carlos Henriquez and
Simone Pacciolla were partnered together at two doubles as they stormed to a 6-2 victory over Vitor Jordao and Nikolai Prosjanykovuben. At this moment, the doubles point was up for grabs as
Jan Stolin and
Joel Mast played one doubles and they lost 6-4 to Leon Sell and Eli Pinnoo.
The Panthers had to put the loss of doubles behind them. As singles began, Paramasivam at one singles struggled as his opponent caught fire, losing 6-3, 6-1 to Jordao. The Panthers earned their first point of the day at two singles as Stolin continued his dominance with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Sell. Mast at three singles posted a great result with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Prosjanykov. Khitrou played the four singles spot and showcased his endurance as the match went the distance, with the Belorussian winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Fenjiro. At six singles, Pacciolla was troubled by Nunez as the match was lost (6-2, 6-4). The match-clinching point came from Henriquez's racquet at five singles 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 over Pinnoo.
The Panthers will look to maintain their momentum as they play Lake Superior State tomorrow morning at 9 AM once again inside the GR Racquet Club.
