Panthers have no answers for No. 14 Wayne State

DU finishes 3-3 in the GLIAC

DETROIT, Mich. - Davenport's men's tennis team went on a trip to the Doris J. and Donald L. Duchene Athletic Facility on Saturday as they looked for their first win over Wayne State since 2018. The Panthers entered their last regular-season conference match of the season against the Warriors who were too tough for DU as they delivered them the 7-0 blow.

The Panthers nearly came up with the doubles point. Daniil Khitrou and Subash Paramasivam at three doubles were quickly dropped 6-0 by Dom Spicer and Emil Mikkelsenarlos. Carlos Henriquez and Simone Pacciolla created a strong duo at two doubles, as they rejoiced in a 6-3 win over Luke Laws and Niklas Karcz. Including that win, the pairing acquired their fifth doubles win in conference play. Jan Stolin and Joel Mast formed quite the tandem, but were unable to get over the line as they fell 7-5 to the third-ranked doubles team in Division II in Cedric Drenth and Daniel Grey.

Paramasivam competed at the one singles position, but could not manage to keep up as he was defeated 6-0, 6-2 by Drenth. Stolin was challenged at two singles but to no avail as the Czech lost 6-2, 6-0 to Grey. Khitrou was back at four singles in a battle against the 2022 GLIAC Player of the Year in Spicer, but his efforts were not enough and was overpowered (6-3, 6-2).

The Panthers will move forward to their tune-up match against No. 4 NAIA Northwestern Ohio on Saturday. The Davenport men will look to recharge before the conference tournament on April 21st where they will likely be the fourth-seeded team.
