Busy weekend in the pool for Davenport

The Davenport swimming and diving teams had a busy weekend in their first action of the new year. They traveled to Grand Valley State on Friday night for a dual meet with the Lakers. On Saturday, the men's team went up against Aquinas and the women's team welcomed Aquinas and Hillsdale to the Kentwood Aquatic Center.

The No. 4 nationally Laker men won 196-44 on Friday night. Austin Mills had a win in the 50 free with a time of 21.36. Owen Stender was able to place second in the 100 breast with a time of 57.55. Dylan Theisen was also able to place third in the one-meter diving with a score of 470.4. He also placed second in the three-meter diving with a score of 254.18. Theisen was able to get his NCAA national diving cut during the meet.

The No. 6 nationally Laker women won 186-56 over the Panthers. The Panthers were able to place second in four different events along the way. Rebecca Wallis in the 200 free swam a time of 1:54.42 and was just behind Linda Frick of GVSU who swam a personal best of 1:53.96. Alicja Pinkowicz was second in the 100 back in a time of 58.60 which was .20 out of first place by Alice Persson of GVSU. Aysia Shank was runner-up in the 100 fly at a time of 58.31. The 400 free relay also placed second in a time of 3:36.30.

The Panther women won both head-to-head matchups in the tri-meet on Saturday against Aquinas and Hillsdale. They beat the Saints 234-53 and the Chargers 181-105. The 200 medley relay "B" team won the event in a time of 1:49.22. Shank, Julia Mizik, and Wallis went 1-2-3 in the 50 free to earn significant points for the squad. Shank's winning time was 25.16. Emelie Hellgren won the 100 free in a time of 54.49. Aubrey Underwood claimed a win in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.43. Wallis was victorious in the 1000 free with a time of 10:24.69. Pinkowicz won the 100 back in a time of 59.35. Ella Wagner touched the wall first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:29.72. Wagner made it a double in the 200 IM with a win at 2:12.36. The women were also able to win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:40.30.

On the men's side, they were able to defeat Aquinas 196-87. The "B" team was able to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.53. The "A" team was able to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:27.84. Maciej Konarski stepped up for a win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:07.16. Grant Sandstedt took care of business in the 200 fly in a time of 2:01.76. Marcel Setlak prevailed in the 100 fly with a time of 52.61. Konarski returned for a win in the 200 breast with a time of 2:07.24. David Szczygiel touched the wall at 1:56.53 to win the 200 back. Gage Pompileo won the 1000 free in a personal best time of 10:08.69. Julian Lazea won the 50 free with a sprinting time of 22.31.
