GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Freshman
Jada McCree scored a season-high 11 points off the bench to lead the Panthers in a 66-48 loss against Parkside on Thursday night in GLIAC action. McCree missed her first two shots in the third quarter, but then connected on three straight triples in a span of 1:07 to make it a 10-point deficit for the Panthers and force a 30-second timeout by Parkside. McCree scored all 11 of her points in the fourth quarter.
Davenport played a tough first quarter and held a 15-14 lead after one tie and three lead changes.
Makenna Bryant and
Isabel Lindo each had four points in the quarter as DU shot 4-of-12 from the floor including 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Parkside took the lead at 17-15 at the 8:31 mark of the second quarter and the Panthers stayed close with a 19-19 tie at the 6:01 mark. The Rangers then scored the next 10 points to take a 29-19 lead with 2:59 left until halftime. Parkside would then hold the lead for the rest of the game. The deficit was reduced to 38-30 at the 4:53 mark of the third quarter on a
Mary Liedel layup. The Rangers would score the next seven points to balloon the lead back to 45-30 with 1:48 left in the quarter. The Rangers shot just 26.3 percent in the quarter while Davenport went 4-of-15. The closest it would get for the fourth quarter was 51-41 with 8:01 remaining.
The Rangers pulled away in the fourth quarter by shooting 60 percent (9-of-15) from the floor compared to 33.3 percent (5-of-15) for the Panthers. The big stat was points in the paint which Parkside held a 42-20 advantage. Liedel finished with a season-high eight rebounds, all coming on the defensive end.
Ellie Toney finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
Lillee Gustafson was credited for six points and seven rebounds. Lindo registered nine points and four rebounds.
Davenport will be back at the DU Student Center on Saturday, Jan. 27 for a 1:00 PM tip-off against Purdue Northwest.
