The men's swimming and diving teams dusted off the trunks and got back into the pool for the first time since the early spring with a couple of competitions. The divers were traveling to Clarion University and the swimmers were able to stay home at Kentwood Aquatic Center for the DU October Invitational.
The men's swimming meet saw other schools come over in Saint Ambrose, Aquinas, and Lake Superior State. Saint Ambrose had the most team points (961) followed by the Panthers (930), Saints (645), and Lakers (89). There were several great performances and the following were winners in their events.
Gerard Labernia Oms won the 500 free with a time of 4:38.87.
Maciej Konarski won the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.06. Konarski also won the 400 IM in a time of 4:04.17.
Owen Stender won the 100 breast touching the wall at 55.72. Stender also claimed the 200 breast in a time of 2:02.63.
Marcel Setlak won the 100 back in a time of 50.32. Setlak also was able to be victorious in the 200 back (1:52.00).
Eric Perczak in the 200 butterfly won in a time of 1:51.40.
The Don Leas diving invite occurred on Friday in Clarion.
Matthew Gauck was able to finish seventh in the one-meter, 11-dive with 392.45 points.
Robert Russo was able to finish 11th in the same event with 384.6 points. Gauck was also eighth in the three-meter, 6-dive with 267.1 points. Russo was also 10th in that event with 245 points.
The Clarion Fall Classic diving meet took place on Saturday. In the one-meter, 6-dive it was Gauck finishing 13th with 219.4 points and Russo placing 15th with 198.7 points. Russo was fifth in the three-meter, 6-dive with 256.05 points. Gauck was one spot behind with 253.35 points.
