ALLENDALE, Mich. - The great start to the fall season continued at the Grand Valley State Gilda's Club Invitational on Oct. 5-6 at The Meadows Golf Course. The Panthers finish third in a tournament for the second time this season and all three tournaments so far have yielded a top-4 finish. DU claimed third place out of 10 schools with a team score of 639 and trailed Grand Valley State (609) and Ferris State (632) in the standings.
The Panthers sent a total of seven golfers to the event with two playing as individuals.
Sydney McDill and
Brooklynn Ringler were those individual players that did not count towards the team score. McDill was playing in her first collegiate tournament and finished with a score of 91 in the first round and 97 in the final round. Ringler was playing in her second tournament of the fall and finished with rounds of 91 and 98.
ThaiLee Gerding had a top-10 finish in a two-way tie for 10th with Julia Sanchez of Grand Valley State. Gerding shot 80-78 for the tournament and did record one birdie in the final round on the par-4, 16th hole.
Lauren Gervais was in a three-way tie for 12th place with a score of 159. Gervais shot 79 on Saturday and 80 on Sunday. She had a total of three birdies in the two rounds including a pair on Sunday on the par-5, 1st hole and par-4, 6th hole.
Hannah Robinson was in a five-way tie for 21st place with a total score of 162. After a rough 88 on Saturday, she showed tremendous improvement with a two-over par 74 on Sunday. Sunday's round featured four birdies on her card including three on the front nine. She shot one-under par 36 on the front nine on Sunday.
Venetia Chap tied for 39th with a score of 171 (93-78).
Melissa Walker placed in a tie for 41st with a score of 172 (82-90).
