Panthers stymied in the third quarter of 64-47 loss to Lewis

The game turned after halftime when the Flyers outscored DU 18-5 in the third quarter

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The third quarter told the tale on Wednesday (Dec. 18) as visiting Lewis University clamped down on defense and pulled away for a 64-47 win over Davenport in non-conference action. Lewis led 29-26 at halftime after seven lead changes and two ties in the first quarter and two lead changes and one tie in the second quarter. Lewis came out of the locker room on a mission defensively and did not allow the Panthers to score until 47 seconds left in the quarter when Ellie Toney hit a bank shot. At that point, DU found themselves down 42-28 and then trailed 47-31 heading into the fourth quarter. Davenport went 2-of-14 from the floor with five turnovers, while the Flyers shot 6-of-12 from the floor and had just two turnovers.

Lewis led by at least 14 points for the rest of the game to improve to 9-1 overall. Meanwhile, Davenport currently sits at 2-7 overall and will have their final non-conference game on Dec. 21 at home against McKendree (7-1) beginning at 1 PM.

Ellie Toney scored in double figures for the fourth straight game with a team-high 15 points. She also tied for the team lead with seven rebounds and dished out two assists. Isabel Lindo also scored 10 points putting her in double digits for the fourth time this season. Lindo went 2-of-4 from the arc and also had five rebounds and two assists. Hannah Schroeder and Nevaeh Williams also tied the team lead with seven rebounds. Williams also scored eight points, all coming in the first half of action. The Panthers finished 17-of-53 from the floor including 7-of-22 from the arc. They were also 6-of-6 at the free throw line, but did not attempt a free throw in the second half. The stat of points off turnovers was a lopsided total in favor of the Flyers, 19-2.
