ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport track and field teams competed in the massive two-day Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday and Saturday. The meet is one of the biggest in the country during the indoor season and sees teams from all over the region including several NCAA Division I schools.
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Erin Dorn set the school record in the 800 meters and placed third in the event with a time of 2:10.37. Dorn is currently 10th in Division II in the event with hopes of making nationals based on that time.
Bryce Albrecht and
Nick Ruvalcaba both broke the school record in the pole vault with a height of 16 feet. That height is also moving up to 28th in the Divsion II rankings.
Noah Evers in the shot put continued to impress with a second-place finish. He tossed 61' 8.5" on his fourth throw and is still ranked second in the Division Ii rankings. The sprints signature event at 60 meters saw
Ethan Scholten finish second (6.8) and
Solomon King right on his heels in third (6.81). Both times are qualifying but not an improvement on earlier times this season.
SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Haley Esser set the school record in the 400 meters and placed second with a time of 57.23 and also had the third fastest time in the 200 meters at 25.79 and finished 15th.
Erin Boettcher placed third in the 400 meters just behind Esser and had the second best time in school history at 57.27.
Julia Ott had a great performance in the high jump and was fifth at 5' 3".
Drew Sharrar in the 3,000 meters was within one second of breaking the school record with a time of 8:37.72.
Rogan Melling in the same event ran 8:39.96 and had the third best time in school history.
Adam Jorgensen had a great day with two personal bests in the 60 hurdles and long jump. He finished at 8.48 seconds in the hurdles and won the long jump at 22' 8.5" and his sixth and final jump.
