Panthers Sweep Cavs to Begin Space Coast Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Davenport University softball team swept Walsh on its opening day at the Space Coast Game at the USSSA Sports Coast Complex. 

Game 1
Result: W, 11-1 (5 Inn.)
How it Happened
The Panthers got out to a fast start, scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning, as the first five batters of the lineup were able to get on base.

Becca Daoust opened the game with a single and scored the first run of the game shortly after following a single to left center field by Hayley Kreiger. Later in the inning, Daoust hit a two-RBI single to center field, bringing home Liv Regenfuss and Brooke Bernt to cap off the dominating first inning.

Daoust continued to shine in the third inning, registering her third hit of the game and eventually scoring the Panthers' 10th run off an RBI from Savanna Disbrow.

In the circle, Hailey Whisman pitched all five innings, only allowing five hits in the game for DU.

Leading the charge offensively for the Panthers was Daoust with four hits, two runs, a stolen base and two RBIs. Kreiger finished with two hits, one RBI and one run, while Alexis Gills chipped in with a double and one run scored.

How it Happened
Kreiger registered an RBI triple in the first inning, bringing home Riley Hasseld, giving Davenport a quick 1-0 lead over the Cavaliers. On the ensuing at-bat, Disbrow singled to center field, allowing Kreiger to reach home and setting the score at 2-0 in favor of DU.

Daoust and Kreiger each scored runs in the top of the fifth inning to push the lead to 5-1 late.

Leading the way for DU was Kreiger, batting a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs. Daoust added a pair of hits and runs, while Disbrow chipped in with two hits.

Kelsey Byers got the win in the circle for the Panthers, pitching all seven innings.

Up Next
The Panthers will return to action tomorrow against Mercy (4:45 p.m.) and No. 19 Nova Southeastern (7 p.m.) at the USSSA Sports Coast Complex.
