Preview: Busy Week for DU Starts with Pair of Road Doubleheaders

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  The Davenport University softball team is set to begin a busy week, playing four doubleheaders in the span of six days, starting with a pair of road contests against Purdue Northwest (Tuesday) and Parkside (Thursday). 

Hailey Whisman earned GLIAC Pitcher of the Week following a pair of wins in her last two outings. The freshman led the Panthers to a 4-2 victory over conference-leading Saginaw Valley State, as well as a 4-1 win against Ferris State. She ended the week with a 1.0 ERA and five strikeouts.

Offensively, Savanna Disbrow is coming off a clutch performance against Ferris State. The Kalamazoo Valley Community College transfer manufactured three of the four runs in the 4-1 victory over the Bulldogs, including a home run and a double.

About the Pride
  • Coming off a pair of wins over Wayne State (10-2, 3-0).
  • Almost defeated No. 7 Indianapolis, falling 3-2 on Wednesday, March 17 in Orlando, Fla. 
  • Selena Michko and Maddison Roop are the top returners for PNW, both earning First Team All-GLIAC honors a season ago. Michko also earned All-Region honors from both the D2CCA and the NFCA last year. 
  • Roop was named GLIAC Player of the Week (week 4).
  • Freshman Kylie Dugan was named week one and four GLIAC Player of the Week. She also leads the conference in batting average (.489).
  • As a team, the Pride lead the GLIAC in total hits with 347.

About the Rangers
  • Last season, UWP went 19-32 overall and 7-17 in GLIAC play.
  • As the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament a season ago, the Rangers advanced to the conference championship game but fell 12-2 to Saginaw Valley State.
  • Return two All-GLIAC performers from a season ago, Mia Johnson (First Team) and Cassie Rutledge (Second Team).
  • Rutledge earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors in week three (March 4). She also ranks third in the conference in hits with 49 on the season.
  • Olivia Masnica leads the Rangers in the circle, holding a 5-4 record with a 3.87 ERA and 32 strikeouts. The junior garnered GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors in week three (March 4).
