Preview: Panthers Head to Detroit for Critical Doubleheader with Warriors

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Looking to break an eight-game losing streak, the Davenport University softball team is heading to Detroit, Mich. for an important doubleheader with Wayne State on Wednesday.

The battle with the Warriors has major implications for the postseason conference tournament. Only the top six teams in the conference make the GLIAC Tournament, and as it stands, DU and WSU sit at No. 6 and No. 7 in the standings. The Panthers are two games behind the Warriors, but would be tied with a pair of wins in Detroit. 

Last week, Becca Daoust and Liv Regenfuss each notched the first home runs of their careers. Daoust did so in the form of an inside-the-park homer to left field against Parkside on Thursday (April 18), while Regnfuss drilled one over the left field fence against Grand Valley State on Saturday (April 20).

About the Warriors
  • Returned three All-GLIAC performers from a season ago, Becky Hodder (First Team), Shelby Miller (Honorable Mention) and Rylie Josephson (Honorable Mention).
  • Earlier this season, WSU swept No. 14 GVSU at home on Wednesday, April 10. 
  • Josephson is leading the Warriors in 2024, batting .400, which ranks second in the conference. She has totaled 50 hits, 10 doubles, two triples and 12 RBIs in her junior campaign.
  • In the circle, Sydney Long leads the squad in ERA (4.01), while Alexis Bonk has the most wins on the team (six).
