Preview: Panthers Host Cards in Midweek GLIAC Action

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  The Davenport University softball team is set to host Saginaw Valley State for a doubleheader on Wednesday (April 10) at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. with the second game to follow.

Coming off a standout performance in which she scored the game-winning run to defeat Wayne State, giving DU its 500th win in program history, Alexis Gills will face her former school for the first time. The SVSU transfer combined for five hits, two runs, two RBIs and two doubles in the doubleheader against the Warriors on Sunday (April 7). The graduate leads the squad in doubles (9) while batting .319 (30-for-94) on the season.

Hailey Whisman leads the Panthers in wins inside the circle with five, while striking 37 strikeouts through 69.1 innings pitched.

As a team, Davenport has the second-highest fielding percent in the GLIAC at .969, along with the second-fewest errors (25).

About the Cardinals
